Mareanza memo!

Marenaza Memeo

Mareanza are pleased to inform you that the festival was a huge success, since the acceptance and comments from the audience and the sponsors were very positive and heartwarming enough to plan our next festival.

The purpose of Mareanza 2010 was accomplished, since it was able to show its audience the rich color, context, and movement of the contemporary dance, merging this learning opportunity with the community without taking an interest in social class, gender, religion, age, and education. It was able to conquer the heart of the most distinctive segments of people. It’s an honor to have had you Annette as a collaborator and partner in this mission so sublime and important for our society, like it is merging culture and the beautiful arts of our region.

Thank You Annette for your Guidance, your presence and your magic, thank you for your collaboration and You showing what the contemporary dance is in South part of Mexico together with Mareanza!

Philippe Decoufle, three boys dance fight

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0jV67WVyfM

"When I was a child, I dreamt of becoming a comic book artist. Drawing is often at the origin of a new creation for me. I get my ideas down on paper, sketching anything that comes into my head. My culture is built on comic books, musical comedies, dancing in night clubs and… Oskar Schlemmer, the Bauhaus choreographer. Discovering photos of the characters in his "Triadic ballet" was a revelation to me. I had always wanted to work with simple geometric shapes like cubes and triangles; I was attracted by the way these lines and volumes interacted with each other. Alwin Nikolaïs taught me the importance of light and costumes and instilled in me a belief that everything can be mixed together. In terms of my dance technique, Merce Cunningham was my most important teacher. In New York, I followed the video courses that he gave himself. That was a fascinating experience which taught me how to overcome problems related to distance and geometry, and the basic rules of optics and movement. Tex Avery was a key influence in the way he sought out apparently impossible movements. That remains a strong part of me: this desire to seek out bizarre movement, something extreme and delirious…

Merce Cunningham

http://www.frithstreetgallery.com/shows/view/tacita_dean_craneway/

In November 2008 British artist and Turner Prize nominee Tacita Dean filmed Merce Cunningham and his company in rehearsal for an event in a former Ford assembly plant in Richmond, California. She had worked with the legendary choreographer before, but this time asked to film rehearsals rather than a performance, so that she could watch Merce more closely – and observe the construction of the dance without music, which was how he usually worked. The 1930s building is situated in the middle of a working port, overlooking San Francisco Bay and as it’s glazed on three sides, passing ship traffic, pelicans, and ever changing light all seem to contribute to the choreography – in a which is typical of Cunningham’s site specific creations – and Dean’s work in film.

Scarlett Perdereau & Company

Scarlett Perdereau is a performer and independent choreographer based in London. Originally from Paris, Scarlett has a background in ballet, modern dance and drama. She turned her interests to dance theatre whilst working with Butoh artists in the UK and Europe, and re-trained in contemporary. Since the start of her career in 2002, she has worked in dance, theatre, opera, film, site-specific and multimedia performance.

She has been teaching regularly and turning her attention to choreography since 2006, developing her own style of contemporary dance. Her first works have shown at Sadler's Wells Connect festival, the Riverside Studios, The Place, and Barcelona's Teatro Mercat de les Flors.

NDT, inspiration to get started in 2010!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaQqa8FDSU4

Happy New Year every one!! hope you all have had a great break!
and are equally inspired and ready for the new year.

Although 2010 will be a so called new start (at least we can pretend) we might be in the position of craving inspiration.
I know here in London we are kicking off with 2 months of Resolution! A non stopping dance bonanza with new emerging choreographers showing off their ideas and works! It is more than worthwhile seeing some of the work, good or bad!

But speaking of inspiration, now is the right time more than ever. Send in your inspiration and I will post it on our blog.

What is new for 2010! time will tell.. but I have a feeling 2010 will be a great year.

Enjoy you fresh month of new beginnings

Happy New Year
